East Bengal drub ONGC; Churchill win

Kolkata, Nov 24, 2012

East Bengal went top of the I-League football table after thrashing ONGC 5-0 in a seventh round match at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Saturday.

ONGC were reduced to 10 men early in the second half when their defender Sandeep Sangha received his second booking of the match.

The weekend crowd of around 15,000 were treated to a feast of attacking football as East Bengal played a superlative second half.

Edeh Chidi, Orji Penn, Manandeep Singh, and substitutes Lalrindika Ralte and Robin Singh were the scorers as East Bengal cruised to its third successive win.

The Kolkata giants have scored 11 goals in the last three rounds without conceding any.
East Bengal top the table with 17 points while ONGC remained in the bottom half with six points.

In Shillong, a brilliant goal from Akram Moghrabi in injury time helped Churchill Brothers earn full points against hosts Shillong Lajong in their seventh round match.

Churchill have 15 points from seven matches.
In Margao, Joaquim Abranches’s 90th minute strike helped Dempo Sports Club score a solitary goal win over a spirited Air India.

Meanwhile, in Pune, Bhaichung Bhutia earned his first points as player manager after United Sikkim held Pune FC 2-2 at the Balewadi stadium.

DG Attivi (25th) and Safar Sardar (27th) scored for United Sikkim while James Moga (1st, 68th) struck a brace for Pune FC.
