A 12-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her cousin during a random celebratory firing at a marriage ceremony on Sunday night at Mundka in west Delhi, said police.

The incident took place at around 10.30 pm at IP Motel banquet hall on Rohtak Road.
Shivi Gupta who hails from Modi Nagar in Uttar Pradesh had come to attend a marriage function with her cousin Shankar Gupta.

The incident occurred when the marriage party reached the venue and Shankar started firing in the air. One of the bullets hit Shivi in the chest and she immediately collapsed.

“The celebration soon turned into a tragedy. To keep the matter away from the local police, Shivi was rushed to Modi Nagar instead of admitting in a nearby hospital,” said additional commissioner of police (west) V Ranganathan. Doctors declared her brought dead.

“We had sent a team to Modi Nagar and brought the body to Delhi,” added Ranganathan. Shivi’s body is kept at the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

Investigators said the bullet was fired by Shankar from a licensed revolver and he is absconding since the incident.

“A hunt is on to nab him and to recover the weapon,” said Ranganathan.
