JOIN USIn the company of good old friends
The former students and the academicians of St Joseph’s College Devagiri, Calicut, who are based in the City, went down memory lane as they celebrated Devostavam, an alumni meet along with their families.
It was a happy occasion for many as they had the opportunity to reconnect with their old friends. Most of the former students narrated stories about their college days and the fun they had. “It is great to see so many of them come together. We keep organising such get-togethers and now, most of us know each other.
Initially, when we started the alumni meet of the Bangalore chapter, it was difficult to find those who had graduated a long time back. However, most of them are very active and keep in touch with us,” recounts Jason, an alumni as well as office-bearer of the Alumni Association, Bangalore Chapter.“The first few meetings were very eventful as many old friends, who were not in touch with each other for years, are in touch with each other now.
There were a few who did not recognise each other and when we showed them their old pictures, they were taken aback. The smile on their faces was priceless,” adds Jason.
More than 110 former students and academicians of the college were present at the function which also had a cultural programme, interactions between family members and the alumni and a sumptuous dinner.
Manju, whose husband was an alumni of the college, says that she attends these meets on a regular basis along with her husband. “We attend these meets whenever and wherever they take place. It is a great opportunity to get to know the peers, friends and teachers of my husband. The best part is the joy that I see on his face when he meets some of his old friends. We also bring our children along so that they can interact with everyone and make new friends,” she adds.
Mayamma Joseph, an alumni of the 1987 batch, says that more than anything, it is the nostalgia that encourages her to attend these meets. “There is so much happiness here with old friends reconnecting after years, sharing memories and making memories at the same time. I attend all the meets and even if I have work, I try to find time to meet all my friends and their families. It makes my day,” she sums up.
