Ryots demand white paper on upgradation of canals

Seize sugar stock from factories and clear bank loans, govt told

Raitha Sangha leader K S Puttanniah demanded arrears payment within eight weeks for the milk supplied to the milk federation and White paper on the upgradation works of canals.

Speaking at a mega protest demonstration, organised by Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha  and Hasiru sene at the deputy commissioner’s office premises in Mandya on Tuesday, he said Manmul has to release Rs 56 crore for the farmers of the district.

The farmers are worst affected as the funds are yet to be released. He stated that the state government should seize the sugar stock at Mysugar and Pandavapura sugar factory and repay the DCC bank loan.

Sowing seeds should be grown at the VC Farm and provide that on subsidy rate to the farmers surrounding VC canal. Disclosing that there is only one fair price shop at Mudagonduru panchayat in Dudda hobli which has more than 3,000 consumers and demanded opening of more fairprice shops there.

Raitha Sangha women convener Nandini Jayakumar said it is very difficult for the women to run their families if the pending dues are not paid. She also called upon the women to come in large numbers and participate in the struggle for speedy payment of arrears.
The protesters also submitted a memorandum to the chief minister through the deputy commissioner seeking White paper for the upgradation of canals, begin works before the end of May, the pending arrears of sugarcane be paid and all factories should pay Rs 2,400 per tonne of cane for the current year and other demands.

Dasanakere of Nagamangala taluk has been included to Zilla panchayat flouting rules. It has to be retained as small irrigation. Schemes should be planned to solve drinking water problems, and power woes should be addressed. Tractors should not be seized for non-payment of loans. Illegal mining at 900 acres of land should be stopped and handover the same to CoD probe, they stressed. Raitha sangha leaders V Ashok, K S Nanjundegowda, Konasale Narasaraju, Shambunahalli Suresh, Haniyambadi Nagaraju and others were present.
