DYFI demands employment reservation in private sector

Last Updated 28 November 2012, 17:42 IST

The activists of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged a dharna in the two cities on Wednesday demanding that the vacancies in the Union and State government departments be filled at the earliest.

Hundreds of activists of the Federation took part in the protest held in front of the office of the deputy commissioner. They raised slogans against the Union and State governments.

The protesters demanded that unemployed youths be paid a dole of Rs 2,000 a month till they get jobs, regularisation of the services of contract and part-time workers at various departments of the government and filling backlog vacancies. They sought reservation in private sector and halting the practice of outsourcing jobs both in government and private sectors.

The DYFI activists said that local people should be given priority in the industries to be set up at the Narasapur and Vemagal industrial estates and extending loans without security for self-employment.

A memorandum was submitted to the chief minister through Additional Deputy Commissioner R S Peddappaiah.

In Chikkaballapur

A similar protest was held in Chikkaballapur too. Addressing the activists, DYFI district president Srinivasa Reddy alleged that the government had not been filing vacancies though unemployment level was only rising.

“The Department for Primary and Secondary Education has 38,000 vacant posts for teachers, aided schools have 8,000 vacant posts and pre-university colleges have 14,000 posts. In the Social Welfare Department, there are about 5,000 posts vacant,” he said, adding that about 1.8 lakh posts in all government departments were vacant, but continued to remain so, due to an indifferent attitude of the government.

“There are youngsters who get depressed because they are unemployed although educated. Some others end up indulging in criminal activities. Temporary or small jobs cannot give them security of employment,” said Reddy. “The government should identify such unemployed youth and ensure they are given jobs with security,” he demanded.

DYFI district unit secretary Shivappa, treasurer H P Ramanath, leaders Devaraj, Venkata Reddy, Adinarayana, Eeshwarappa and B N Munikrishnappa were present.
