Rasheim wins tennis title

Mysore, Nov 29, 2012, DHNS:

Rasheim Samuel completed his fine run in the AITA men’s 30K tournament in victorious fashion, defeating Mukund S Kumar to emerge champion here on Thursday.

Samuel, who ousted top seed Suraj R Prabodh 7-6, 6-3 in the semifinals earlier in the day, beat Mukund 6-4, 6-4 in the title clash at the Raghuveer Tennis Academy.

However, it was not a day of complete disappointment for Mukund. The Tamil Nadu lad paired up with Fahad Mohammed earlier in the day to capture the doubles title, defeating second seeds Soni Jay and Sameep Maheta 6-4, 6-3 in the final.

Results (prefix denotes seeding): Singles, final: Rasheim Samuel bt Mukund S Kumar 6-4, 6-4. (Semifinals): Rasheim Samuel bt 1-Suraj R Prabodh bt 7-6 (7-5), 6-3; Mukund S Kumar bt 2-Vikram Naidu BS 6-4, 6-1.

Doubles, final: Fahad Mohammed/ Mukund S Kumar 2-Soni Jay/ Sameep Maheta 6-4, 6-3. (Semifinals): Fahad Mohammed/ Mukund S Kumar bt 1-Nishanth Rebello/ Vikram Naidu 6-2, 7-6 (7-3); Soni Jay/ Sameep Maheta bt Varun Gopal/ Prashanth MD 6-4, 6-4.
