Food security not about PDS: Experts

Last Updated 29 November 2012, 20:10 IST

A number of civil society organisations held a two-day convention to start a people’s movement for better health care for all including easy access to essential medicines.

Organised by the Jan Swasthya Abhiyan, the convention looked at policy measures, financial mechanisms and governance issues. Delegates also discussed labour and child rights within the framework of universal health care.

The convention had three principal focus points –opposition to privatisation of health care; strengthening, expanding and reorienting public health services; and demand for universal access to health care and medicines.

Experts linked healthcare to food availability and access, underpinning high rates of malnutrition in children.
