The haze surrounding the grave of poet of yore Raghavanka seems to be nearing end with restoration work of Pathaleshwara temple here in the district launched on Saturday.

It is believed that the grave of the poet is in the temple complex. Yet, it has remained a puzzle with the researchers unable to trace the same.

According to another version, the idol of Linga installed at the temple is the grave of the poet, but yet to be ascertained again.

According to Srivatsa T Vati from Dharmothana Trust, Dharmasthala which has taken the restoration job along with a dedicated committee of the temple, the focus is also on vetting into the facts behind the existence (?) of the grave of the poet.

The team of researchers also stumbled upon the interesting fact about the linga. When the idol was removed after offering related ritual as part of the temple’s restoration, it was found that the linga is further tall, in contrast to the temple constructed during Hoysala period.

The linga of Hoysala period is usually one to two feet tall, and the idol here is up to four-and-a-half feet. Srivatas Vati said ‘It’s a rare find.’ The temple is originally named as Veereshwara.

The work is expected to resume next week. The work on realigning the temple is expected to be completed in six months, president of the restoration committee H M Dayanand told the media.
