Man drowns in St Mary's Island

 A man drowned at St Mary’s island in Malpe on Saturday. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Dharmendra Jogi (36), a resident of Kuthar near Mangalore. It was said that he along with his collegues had come to island for a picnic.

Six members were playing in the water when the mishap occurred. Though three persons were washed away in the water, the fishermen in the boat rescued the two.

Dacoits nabbed

The Ujire police have arrested four inter-state decoits, at Sabarabail in Sonandoor, on Saturday. According to the police, the arrested are Amar Singh, Sardar, Madan and Bahuliya. The arrested have been produced before the court.

Conductor dies

A KSRTC conductor, sleeping under a bus, was crushed to death when the driver unknowingly reversed the vehicle. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Viroopaksha Sajjan, 46, a conductor attached to Koppal depot. The driver had moved the bus without knowing that Viroopaksha was sleeping under the bus. The bus, which arrived at 7 am was supposed to leave for Koppal at 7 pm.

Godown guts

A scrap dealers godown gutted in fire near Thokkot Junction near Ullal on Friday shortly after mid-night.

The godown belonging to Mohammed Ashraff, caught fire at around 1.30 am, seeing which a pedestrian informed the Fire Service personnel.

Though the fire servicemen along with the locals succeeded in putting off the fire, goods worth Rs three lakh were gutted in fire. A case has been registered in Ullal police station.
