'I would like to explore other mediums'

Kuki Grewal has just taken a few steps outside the modelling world and is now pursuing what she always wanted to do –– acting.

Though she has done commercials, she strongly believes that one is never a complete actor without stepping onto the stage.

Like any newcomer, she too was very scared of the stage. But when she gave her first performance in ‘Ballantine’s Salt N Pepper’, she overcame the fear of acting live on the stage.

“The way I landed with this role was very surreal. I was called for a reading of the play. For two days, I was called to play the role.

I had no clue my life would take such a big turn in such a short time. But I am happy because I couldn’t have gotten a bigger break in theatre,” she adds.

The play revolves around ten different couples and the relationship they
share, each story being ten-minute-long. Kuki says it was a challenge at first. “I was very nervous especially since everyone else in the cast had a big body of work. But under the able direction of Vikranth Pawar, I did constant rehearsals and finally overcame my stage fright,” she adds.

But as Kuki did more shows, she got addicted to theatre and fell in love with the stage itself. “It’s a completely different space, where you are in tune with the audience. I can really see myself grow out here,” she adds.

Kuki definitely is not closing doors on other mediums, like movies and serials. “I would like to explore other mediums. When it comes to movies, I feel now the industry is open to different kinds of actors and there are many roles.

I would definitely like to experiment with ‘slice-of-life kind of movies’, which are very contemporary. But when it comes to serials, we are yet to go beyond the saas-bahu storyline. But I am open to working in serials if the concept attracts me,” she sums up.
