Kejriwal alleges Cong-BJP nexus

Anil Sinha, NEW DELHI, Dec 4, 2012, DHNS:

AAP chief accuses the parties of being business partners

Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday claimed that though the Congress and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi play each other’s adversary before the public, they are business partners behind the curtains.

“They promote the same set of business people,” Kejriwal alleged. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders like Kejriwal, Prashant Bhushan, Manish Sisodia, Anand Kumar and Gopal Roy alleged that both Congress and Modi favoured Geo Global, a company owned by Jean Paul Roy.

Modi also favoured Jubilant Empro Pvt Ltd owned by Shyam Sunder Bhatia, husband of Shobhana  Bhartiya, a Congress MP closely associated with the Gandhi family.
The AAP leaders released documents to drive home the point that Modi was no different from other politicians when it came to awarding contracts to  businessmen of choice.

Referring to alleged irregularities in a gas deal, Kejriwal said: “Modi gave free of cost 10 per cent stakes in gas fields in the KG basin, owned by the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC), to Geo Global and Jubilant Empro, without any competitive bidding. The value of this gift will be around Rs 10,000 crore as Mukesh Ambani gave 30 per cent stake to the British Petroleum in his gas fields in the same area for Rs 35,000 crore.”

“Geo Global’s owner Jean Paul Roy, who came from Canada, floated a company with Rs 32,00. Within six days, his company was worth Rs 10,000 crore,” Kejriwal said, adding that the Comptroller and Auditor General of India had rejected the Gujarat government’s claim that the company had technical expertise. “Why did Modi do that? Who is Jean Paul Roy? What is Modi’s relationship with Jean Paul Roy?” questioned Kejriwal.

“Is it not strange that Modi granted Rs 10,000 crore benefit to someone close to the Congress? Is it not strange that the Congress remained silent about the scam for so many years?” Kejriwal went on to allege that Roy had received similar benefits from the Centre in oil fields in the KG basin, Cambay basin, Deccan Syneclise basin and Bikaner Nagaur basin. “Jean Paul Roy seems to be both Modi’s and Congress’ man.” In support of his claim that the Congress and the BJP are hand in glove, Kejriwal cited the land scam in Gandhi Nagar that allegedly involved MLAs from both parties.

The AAP leaders also alleged that Modi went out of his way to favour the Adanis. Modi purchased electricity at Rs 5.5 per unit, when the state PSU was offering electricity at Rs 2.25, the AAP leader said.
