Despite scooter sales declining 15 per cent in the first eight months in 2012-13 on a year-on-year basis, Chennai-based TVS Motor Company is keen on launching new scooter models by April-May next year.

The President-Marketing of the company, H S Goindi, reaffirmed this on the sidelines of launching its 125 cc motorcycle “Phoenix” on Tuesday. “We are going to have new scooter models in four to five months from now, though it is true that sales are down and competition is tough. Scooter sales will pick up in smaller towns in the coming months.”

The motorcycle is priced at Rs 51,170 and Rs 53,240 for its two versions. Goindi said that the company plans to sell about 20,000 units of “Phoenix” every months starting from this month.

He also said that the company’s ramp up of dealer network is on course; about 75 new dealers will be appointed by the end of March, 2013.

On the exports front, he said South America, Africa and Asia are key markets for Indian two wheeler manufacturers.
