Child rights education project launched in K'taka

Last Updated 04 December 2012, 20:21 IST

The Bangalore Rural Education and Development Society (BREADS) on Monday launched the Child Rights Education and Action Movement (CREAM) to step up its efforts to create awareness about child rights among children and enhance their participation in the development process.

The project also aims to train stakeholders such as gram panchayats, government officials and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) about child rights — among many other things. BREADS is a subsidiary of Don Bosco, which is involved in child rights and rehabilitation work in the State for many years.

"The government and NGOs need to look at how we can further develop and work for the rights of children,” said Edward Thomas, a member of the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, who attended the launch.
