Defending champions KGF Academy began their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Postal in the BDFA Super Division League on Wednesday.

A new-look KGF, after the cream of their players moved over to the newly-formed South United Football Club, did well to earn a point after falling behind to a Ricky Joy strike in the 13th minute.

Postal began well and gained the lead when Ricky pounced on to a clearance from the first corner-kick of the match and smashed one from the top of the box to beat Jayanth hands down in the KGF goal.

The goal shook up KGF and, with their former coach and current South United boss Raman Vijayan watching from the stands, they pressed forward and had a chance to equalise soon. However, Kalander was thwarted by Postal custodian Ravindran.
KGF enjoyed a brief spell of possession and Tiken Singh sent a free-kick wide of the target midway through the first half.

Postal had a golden chance to double the lead in the 34th minute when a mistake by defender Vinod Kumar left striker Sehlenmang with only the goalkeeper to beat. Jayanth was able to parry the first shot and the rebound fell perfectly for Sehlenmang, who shot wide.

Soon after the break, Kalander had a shot saved by Ravindran. KGF equalised when Anwar Hussain curled one from the top of the penalty area in the 54th.
Earlier, Bangalore Kickers scored a 3-2 win over CIL in the ‘A’ Division. Dayananda (9th), Suraj (32nd) and Surjith Singh (76th) scored for Kickers while Prathap (27th) and Karthick (60th) struck for CIL.
