Airport Express ready for safety inspection: Krishna

Last Updated 05 December 2012, 20:23 IST

Union urban development secretary Sudhir Krishna on Wednesday said that the Commission for Metro Rail Safety is studying the safety issues in the Airport Express Corridor.

He told reporters that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) rectified all defects found on the line and submitted the report to the CMRS.

The dates for an inspection by the CMRS were awaited. As soon as the CMRS gives approval, we can move forward, he said. Since the corridor has undergone repairs at various levels, an inspection and safety nod by CMRS is mandatory.

The line was temporarily shut on July 8 after the Reliance Infrastructure-led consortium found some defects on the civil structure and brought them to the notice of the Delhi Metro.

Since then, repair work on the corridor has been on and got completed a month ago. Trial runs have also been successful, sources said.

Ever since the operations were shut down, Delhi Metro and Reliance Infra have been at loggerheads on several issues which culminated with the consortium sending a notice to terminate the agreement.

Delhi Metro, however, rejected the offer and asked it to operate the line and referred the pending issues for arbitration.

Krishna said the Delhi Metro is trying to integrate the ‘More’ card with its feeder buses.

He said the authorities which provided different modes of transport had to coordinate with each other for successful implementation of the card. The More card is a single card for utilising multiple mode of transport systems including Metro, buses and parking.
