BU Education dept goes for guest faculty

In a strange twist, Bangalore University’s Department of Education is conducting a fresh round of interviews to fill guest faculty vacancies for the post graduation course in education (MEd), three months after it had conducted similar interviews and selected candidates.

The department is right how running the show with five faculty members and faces acute shortage of staff. In September, the department of education interviewed candidates for 10 posts of guest faculty.

The selections were finalised and many of those selected were told to wait for formal word on their joining dates. The university sat on the issue, only to publish an advertisement for the same posts again on December 7. Chairperson of the department of education, Umme Kulsum, told Deccan Herald that the earlier selections will not stand valid.

Interestingly, the earlier selections were made with a view to fill part-time vacancies. The current advertisement lists openings for full-time guest faculty positions.

Kulsum attributed the change in recruitment policy to huge pendency of course work due to staff shortage and that party-time faculty cannot suffice to complete backlog.

BU Acting V-C Rangaswamy said no preference will be given to candidates selected earlier. He was not able to give reason why the department conducted interviews for part-time faculty three months ago when it required full-time guest faculty.
