6 goods train coaches gutted in fire

At least six coaches of a goods train carrying highly inflamable petroleum products were gutted in a fire after a derailment of the train near Jarwal Road station on the Lucknow- Gorakhpur section of the North Eastern Railway in Uttar Pradesh's Baharaich district on Friday.

The incident occurred in the wee hours after some coaches of the train derailed when the driver  applied the emergency brakes.

It took 15 fire tenders and at least ten hours to bring the flames under control, but by then at least six coaches were gutted.

The rest were attached to another engine and sent away.

The incident affected a number of long distance trains on the section.

Around a dozen trains had to be diverted and some were even cancelled.

According to the railway officials, the track would be opened for traffic late in the night.

The was no report of any loss of life in the incident, sources said.

Senior railway officials were camping at the site and supervising track repairing work. The cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained, officials said.
