HC notice to govt on safety in schools

Deccan Herald News Service, Oct 9,Bangalore:

The High Court has ordered notice to the State government in connection with a petition seeking implementation of Supreme Court guidelines on safety measures in schools.

C J Singh, in his petition has stated that the government has not initiated any steps to ensure safety in schools despite an order by the Apex Court in April 2009. While the states are to submit a compliance report, the Education Department in Karnataka has not taken any steps to implement the order, he said.

PDOs appointment

The HC ruled that the appointment of Panchayat Development Officers (PDO) is subject to the outcome of the writ petition challenging the recruitment process.

Ramanjaneya, an advocate from Yennur in Chikkaballapur district has challenged the exam conducted by Merit Trac, a skill assessment firm, to select 2,500 PDOs. He contended that the KPSC  should have conducted the exam. Malpractices, question paper leak were reported and eight persons were arrested during the exams held on Sept 20, 2009.  He sought to declare the exams and selection process, null and void.
