'Puttaswamy a terrorist?'

Janata Dal (S) Floor leader M C Nanaiah on Monday wanted to know from the government as to why B J Puttaswamy, who was the Co-operation minister, was dropped from the State Cabinet.

“Was he a terrorist like Afzal Guru or was he involved in any other anti-national activities?” he asked the government in the Legislative Council.

The issue came up when a reply signed by Puttaswamy in his capacity as Co-operation minister on December 8 was tabled in the Council by Housing minister V Somanna.

Taking objection to this, the Opposition members urged the chief minister to explain to the House as to why he was sacked as minister. While the Opposition demanded a reply, the treasury benchers said that it was the prerogative of the chief minister to take such decisions.

Chairperson D H Shankarmurthy conceded that the question should have been dropped and not submitted to the House.

As it had already been done, he would bring to the notice of the chief minister, he said. Incidentally, Puttaswamy, who is a MLC, sat in the House through the entire debate.
