Udupi: Dec 11, 2012 DH News Service

The Minority Development Corporation has written a letter to the government to simplify the rules for selection of beneficiaries of Ganga Kalyana Yojana. As per the rules, the beneficiaries should possess a minimum of two-acre land to avail the benefits of the scheme. Now the Corporation has written to the government to limit it to one acre land.

No beneficiary fulfills the condition to avail the scheme in Ganga Kalyana yojana in Udupi Assembly constituency, it is said.

Under the scheme, beneficiary can drill borewell in their land.
The target for 2012-13 in Udupi Assembly constituency is 40. A sum of Rs 40 lakh has been earmarked for the purpose.

As many as eight applications have been received by the officials from Kundapur Assembly constituency. Six applications have been received from Kaup Assembly constituency.
The authorities had received 20 applications from Baindur constituency limits. However, eight have been rejected. In Karkala, as many as 13 individuals had applied under the scheme. However, only eight applications have been processed.

“If the rules are not simplified, then it would be difficult to get beneficiaries in Udupi Assembly constituency. The fund will remain unutilised,” it said.

Minority Development Corporation Udupi Manager Sridhar Bhandary said: “We could not select any beneficiary in Udupi. As Udupi Assembly constituency comes under urban limit, it would be difficult to find out a beneficiary having two-acre land.”

“We have written to the government to simplify the rules. We are hoping for a positive response from the government. If the rules are simplified, then more people can avail the benefit. If the rules are simplified, then we can reach our target,” he added.
