I respect you, Maya tells Ansari

A day after lashing out at Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari, BSP supremo Mayawati on Thursday softened her stance and said she respected both Ansari and the Chair.

“I respect you. I respect the Chair. It is unfortunate that the Bill related to reservation in promotions for the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes could not be passed in the last session. In this session, there has been an uproar against the Bill. I hope and have full confidence that you will find a way out to ensure that the House runs peacefully and the Bill is passed,” Mayawati said.

Mayawati on Wednesday took on Ansari over disruptions in House proceedings after 12 pm. Though Mayawati did not apologise for the remarks, she requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to “remove the hurdles” to facilitate passage of the Bill.  “Our government has full faith and the highest regard for you. Respect for the Chairman of the House is a respect for maintaining the dignity of this House and we will work with all sections of the House to ensure that the Chair gets all the cooperation and all the respect that is due to you and to this august Chair,” the prime minister said.
