Calling her father Ravi Shankar a "genius", singer Norah Jones has said she and millions of music lovers will miss the sitar legend.

Ravi Shankar died on December 11 following a heart-valve replacement surgery in San Diego. He was 92.

His 33-year-old daughter Norah, with American Sue Jones, said Shankar's music has inspired millions of people, reported Aceshowbiz.

"My Dad's music touched millions of people. He will be greatly missed by me and music lovers everywhere.

I remember when I found out that John Coltrane had come to him once to study... That impressed me at the time, more than the George Harrison thing just because I was such a jazz nerd. But you know it's all amazing. He's inspired a lot of musicians," Jones said in a statement.

The jazz singer, who shot to fame by sweeping five Grammys in 2003, has always been guarded about her famous father and their relationship.
