Continuing with the goodwill exchange programme that the governments of Karnataka and Meghalaya had initiated in the wake of the exodus of North East people from the southern cities after the Kokrajhar violence and subsequent rumours, the State government is hosting a goodwill delegation from Meghalaya.

Meghalaya Minister for Information and Public Relations (IPR), Abu Taher Mondal, along with Director, IPR Meghalaya, H M Shangpliang, will take part in the event.

A cultural programme showcasing the cultural and traditional heritage of Meghalaya will be held at Ravindra Kalakshetra, JC Road, on Sunday.

Mondal said, “This is Meghalaya’s unique initiative and will go a long way in fostering inter-cultural harmony and national integration.”

Commenting on the programme, Shangpliang said, “This programme will create a sense of brotherhood and communal harmony. We are certain this unique initiative, the first of its kind in the country, shall not only enhance a sense of camaraderie among people in Karnataka and Meghalaya, but also instil a larger sense of national integration.”

Following the exodus of people of the North East states earlier this year, a goodwill mission was constituted by Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.
