Last Updated 17 December 2012, 20:08 IST

Police here have claimed a major breakthrough in a triple murder case where a woman, Anila, and her two teenage daughters, Sonali and Purnima, were killed at Patliputra.

The police cracked the case after Gopal Sharan Singh, Anila’s husband, revealed during interrogation that his son from first marriage, Divesh, killed Anila and her daughters.
Property dispute is said to be reason behind the gruesome murders.

Anila was the second wife of Singh, a retired government employee. The couple had three daughters. Singh had two sons from his first wife, who died 25 years ago.

Singh, who had earlier fled to Delhi, returned to Patna on Sunday. “During interrogation, he told the police that it was Divesh who had killed the trio,” said Sunil Kumar, DIG, Central range. The murder weapon, a hammer, was also recovered from Gopal’s house, he added.
Divesh is absconding.
