A high-level non-proliferation body on Monday took a “number of decisions” to further strengthen country’s export controls for nuclear and other strategic materials, Pakistan said.

The decisions were made at a meeting of the Oversight Board of the Strategic Export Control Division that was chaired by Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani.
“A number of decisions were taken to further strengthen the export controls,” Foreign Office spokesman Moazzam Khan said.

The meeting was held at the Foreign Ministry to monitor the implementation of the Export Control Act of 2004 and the functioning of the Strategic Export Control Division. It was attended by members of the Oversight Board from different ministries and organizations.

A presentation by the Director General of the Strategic Export Control Division highlighted the performance of the organisation, Khan said.

The participants expressed satisfaction at steps taken so far to meet the country’s “international obligations as a responsible nuclear-weapon state”, he said.
