Unidentified miscreants allegedly forged official letterhead of Union Overseas Indian Affairs minister Vayalar Ravi to confirm a wait-listed Indian Railways ticket, police said on Friday.

The incident came to light when Ravi’s private secretary  Sadhna Shankar complained to Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar. According to a senior police official, a case was lodged with the Economic Offences Wing police station on
Monday.

“It has come to our notice that somebody has forged the official letterhead of the minister for sending a letter of request to Union Railways Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal for confirmation of a wait-listed ticket in respect of a man named Raj Narayan,” Shankar said in her statement to police.

Shankar said Ravi had not written any such letter.

“I have been directed to request you to get the matter investigated and take appropriate action  against the culprits,” she added.

The police official said Shankar handed over the railway ticket and the forged letterhead, and a probe has been initiated.

The culprits face charges under sections 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery) and 470 (using forged document as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code.

In June, a travel agent from central Delhi was arrested for forging the signature and letterhead of Bharatiya Janata Party leader and member of parliament Shahnawaz Hussain to confirm wait listed railway tickets.
