TMC leader in soup for obscene act
A Trinamool Congress (TMC) member was caught on camera throwing wads of currency notes at young girls dancing in scanty clothes during a function organised to celebrate the party’s foundation day on Tuesday, further embarrassing the party.
The party member was suspended on Wednesday.
The programme was organised in Bhangar, a 40-minute drive from Kolkata by district-level leaders on Tuesday night to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Trinamool Congress where a man identified as TMC leader and 24-Parganas Zilla Parishad member Mir Tahir Ali climbed on to the stage and threw money at dancers performing in skimpy attire.
The programme was not only organised at a stone-throwing distance from the Bhangar police station but it didn’t have police permission either and at 11:30 pm police had to intervene and stop the show.
“Thousands of events marked Trinamool’s 16th birthday yesterday and one of these events was abhorrent where ladies danced on the stage. It was an isolated incident and I assure that strictest action will be taken against any party worker involved,” party MP and spokesperson Derek O’Brien said.
“What happened last night is strictly condemnable and TMC doesn’t approve of such crap. Last night police went and stopped the event and we didn’t interfere. We have a disciplinary committee and they will identify the people and take appropriate action.
