A private bus driver allegedly attempted to rape a 53-year-old woman passenger in the bus near Bankapur, off National Highway 4, Shiggaon taluk, Haveri district.

As the woman raised an alarm, co-passengers thrashed the driver. On a complaint by the woman, the Bankapur police arrested the driver, Ahmed Abdul Khader Pathan of Belgaum camp. On Friday, students were not allowed to alight and were forcibly taken to Chikkodi bus stand, where they were abused by another KSRTC employee, they alleged.

Although Mang was replaced by another conductor on Saturday, parents and students still resorted to protest. KSRTC Division Controller, Chikkodi, Shantappa assured protesters that Mang would be suspended from service.
