Raiganj/Bankura (WB), Jan 6, 2013, PTI:

The horror of rapes, molestation and eve teasing haunted different parts of the state with one of the victims of sexual assault being a two-year-old girl and four others aged below 10 years.

In Raiganj in West Bengal, a two-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an 18-year-old youth at Minapara village in North Dinajpur district, police said on Sunday. The youth has been arrested and sent to 14-day judicial custody.

An FIR lodged by the victim’s father said that the baby was raped when her mother went to wash clothes in a pond leaving her sleeping on the side of the pond on Saturday.

Four minor girls, aged between five and ten, have been raped by a 40-year-old man in West Bengal’s Bankura district, police said on Sunday.

The incident occurred at Rathtala area in Belatore on January 3 and the accused, identified as Rabi Lochan Dey, a grocery shop owner, was arrested last night, Superintendent of Police, Bankura, Mukesh Kumar said.

An FIR lodged with the police said the girls, aged 5, 7, 8 and 10, had gone to the grocery shop at around 3 pm to purchase a cake. On the pretext of giving them cake, Dey called the girls to another room and committed the crime, the report said.

The matter came to light when one of the girls passed blood with her urine, police said, adding that the report of a medical test conducted on the girls at the local hospital was awaited.

Meanwhile, in Maharashtra’s Akola district, an eve-teaser was allegedly beaten up by a 20-year-old girl when he tried to harass her while she was returning home at Patun tehsil in the district, police said.
