Dilli hits new low, even woman constable unsafe

New Delhi:Jan 6, 2013 DHNS 0:59 IST
In the capital, even a woman police officer is not safe any more in public transport. A woman Delhi Police constable along with two other women were molested by a man in a moving DTC low-floor bus on Sunday.

According to police, the incident happened in a DTC bus plying between route number 374 (Nand Nagri to Nehru place).

“At 3 pm, when the bus reached Jagatpuri, the man began molesting two women in the bus. When a woman constable, who was also present in the bus, objected to his attempts, he even dared to molest her too. At this, the woman cop slapped him and directed the driver to stop the bus,” said a police officer.

The woman constable caught him with the help of a journalist and took him to Anand Vihar police station, where they handed over the man to police.

“We have registered a case under relevant provisions against the accused identified as Akshay Lal, 22, a resident of Mandawali. He has been arrested,” said the officer.

BPO employee held

A 25-year-old BPO employee was arrested for harassing a woman at a bus stop near Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in central Delhi just before the one-day cricket match between India and Pakistan was to begin on Sunday morning, reports DHNS.

The incident took place at a bus stop close to National Gandhi museum near Rajghat. The accused was nabbed by police officials as soon as the victim raised an alarm.

The accused identified as Harender Singh, a resident of Trilokpuri in east Delhi, works as a data operator in a BPO in Noida.

He was taken to IP Estate police station, where a case under section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC was registered against him.

The police officer said the woman, a resident of east Delhi, was waiting for her husband at the bus stop when Singh passed lewd remarks on her. “She had gone to Lajpat Nagar for shopping. Since her husband had asked her to meet at the bus stop near Gandhi museum, she arrived there from Lajpat Nagar in a bus,” said the officer.

At the bus stop, Singh passed some lewd comments on her. The woman first ignored it, but when he continued harassing her she approached a police officer who was standing a few yards away from the bus stop.

The police officer immediately nabbed Singh and handed him over to local police.
“Even though the woman refused to give a complaint regarding the incident, we registered a case and arrested the accused,” said a senior police officer.

Another rapist juvenile

A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two persons, including a juvenile, in Mayur Vihar in east Delhi, police said on Sunday.

According to police, the victim lives with her family members, and studies in class 9 in a government school.

"On Friday, when the girl was alone in her house, a person along with a 17-year-old juvenile, barged into her house. Both took turns to rape her,” said a police officer.
Police said when the girl resisted, they threatened her. They said they will kill her if she told about the incident to anyone.

The accused fled from the spot after raping her.

Police said the victim narrated the ordeal to her parents, who approached police and filed a case. “Both the accused have been arrested for raping the minor. Investigation is on,” said the officer.
