'Bring NRI academics to teach in India'
The argument that Indians work hard when they go abroad, while they remain slackers at home, has been frequently used to point out the failings of the country.
Speaking at the on-going Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, Lord Bhiku V Parekh, who has taught at London School of Economics and served as member of the commission for racial equality besides being a member of the House of Lords, said lack of impetus in promoting pure sciences and lack of incentives for academic pursuits have stalled India’s advancement.
“How many papers by Indian scientists got published in foreign journals?... Very few. We need to find out the reason for this,” Lord Parekh said, highlighting the success achieved by NRIs. He pointed at regulations that prevent foreign faculties from teaching in Indian universities, while countries like China and South Korea have begun getting best international faculty to teach their students.
