Hard work sees City's CAT toppers exult in joy

Veer is on cloud nine. Naturally so. Having scored 99 per cent in CAT, he is one among 163 candidates from namma Bengaluru, who have come out with flying colours in the CAT exams. So is Nishitha Reddy, equally ecstatic about cracking the exam with a 99.35 per cent score. The other on the scroll of 90s percentile includes Anishka Sinha, with 99.86 per cent.

Given that 1,510 students scored 90 and above from Bangalore saw the City ranked third in terms of most number of candidates achieving that feat. Incidentally, around 11,563 candidates sat for the CAT examination from the State, out of the total 1.9 lakh from across the country.

If for Veer, it was a dream come true after all the earlier years of disappointment and thanks to his fortitude and determination to beat all odds, for IT professional Nishitha Reddy it was experience coupled with the focus on improving her speed in solving problems and verbal comprehension that did the trick.

On the other, for computer science engineering graduate Anishka Sinha, it was approaching the question based on common sense, instead of blindly sticking to a formula, besides hard and smart work, that saw her sail through in facile fashion.

Says Veer: A crystal clear idea about the basics and concepts, thorough preparation and consistency are the key to cracking the exam. His earlier two attempts were rendered useless due to his inability to master the English language.

“I knew that I needed to overcome my weaknesses and further my strengths if I wanted to achieve my goal,” said Veer, who had enrolled himself at a coaching centre to buttress his preparations. Her experience in the IT field ingrained a sense of practical and rational approach to take the exam, says Nishitha Reddy.

Anishka Sinha too said her work experience greatly helped her face the interview confidently.

One of the most prominent features of CAT 2012 was the high number of female candidates. Out of total figure of 2.14 lakh registered candidates, nearly 28 per cent were females.

Only four girls have scored 99.99 per cent in the entire country and come from engineering backgrounds. In all, 255 girls and 1,640 boys scored more than 99 percentile throughout the country.
