Railways rethink to halt train at Dudda

Failure to utilise the facility, loss to railway department

The railways which had directed to halt the train at Dudda railway station yielding to the demands of the people of the taluk is now thinking of withdrawing it, as it has met with tepid response from the locals.

According to sources, it is said that as the residents failed to utilise the service the department of railways  which has forced it to withdraw the stoppage at the station.

The members of farmers association and locals had stressed that the train has to stop for a few minutes at the station to benefit hundreds of passengers who travel to Mysore and other places from Dudda.

The railway department too acceded to their requests hoping at least 60 to 70 passengers would board the train from the station and started stopping the strain from September 26, 2012.

But there are hardly eight to 10 passengers every day, much to the disappointment of the department.

It is said that about 27 litres of diesel is utilised for the train to apply brakes once. Hence, it would be observed for some more time and then a decision would be taken, said senior divisional commercial manager Dr Anup Dayanand Sadhu.

But the Mysore-Shrvanabelagola train has received good response and there are more than 300 passengers using the service in the station, it is said.

Toilets

More than 5,000 passengers use the rail service from Hassan railway station every day and brings in a profit of Rs 1.5 lakh. A pay and use toilet will be built soon. It is also decided to open a station at Koramangala and works will begin soon, Sadhu said.

The station hast two waiting halls for the passengers and a dormitory, which is not being utilised, he said. A standard room will be fixed Rs 200 and a six-bedded dormitory which would be Rs 60 per bed. Public should make use of the facilities, he said.

Probe

A probe has begun for the recent incident where a rain derailed near Sakleshpur, which would be submitted within 11 days. Future course of action would be based on the report, he added.
