Three members of a family, including a six-year-old girl, were stabbed to death over a property dispute in south west Delhi’s Bindapur late on Thursday night. The main accused along with an accomplice were arrested from the spot, police said on Friday.

Asit Sahini, 31, his wife Phalguni, 24, and daughter, residents of Bidanpura in Karol Bagh, were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where Phalguni and the six-year-old girl were declared brought dead.

“Asit succumbed to injuries during treatment,” said Anil Kumar Ojha, additional commissioner of police (south west).

Probe has revealed that Uttam Nagar resident Gurdeep Singh Bedi, 41, had a property dispute with Asit. He decided to eliminate Asit.

According to plan, Gurdeep called Asit to his ready-made garments tailoring workshop at Nanhe Park in Bindapur. Asit, however, came along with his wife and daughter and were stabbed by Gurdeep and accomplice Rehman Ali, 31.

“Gurdeep is a cutting master, while Rehman is a tailor by profession. Rehman was staying in the workshop,” Ojha added. The incident came to light when a call was made to the police control room informing about loud cries of a female from the fourth floor of a building at about 11:20 pm.

“The PCR caller was later contacted to confirm exact location of the building,” Ojha said.
Two beat constables Rajinder Singh and Sushil, on patrolling duty, were also informed on their wireless set. On reaching the spot, they found the main door of the house opened and Phalguni lying in a pool of blood.

Gurdeep was trying to flee from the spot with blood stains on his clothes but was immediately caught by the beat staff. He confessed that he had injured Phalguni, Asit and their daughter with his accomplice Rehman.

“The constables searched other rooms and found Asit and his daughter lying unconscious with blood scattered around,” Ojha added.

On searching the building, constable Rajender found Rehman hiding on the adjacent rooftop. He was overpowered at gunpoint.

On interrogation, Gurdeep told police that Asit had purchased a flat from him in outer Delhi’s Bawana under self finance cost effective workers housing scheme. The flat was in Gurdeep’s wife Bharti’s name and Asit had made a payment of Rs 2.25 lakh.

“But despite repeated requests, Gurdeep did not handover possession of the flat to Asit and even did not get the papers made in his name. When Asit threatened Gurdeep that he will report the matter to police, Gurdeep hatched a plan to eliminate him,” Ojha said.

A case of murder has been registered with Bindapur police station against Gurdeep and Rehman.
