Springing a surprise on the Congress high command, senior party leader S M Krishna has informed the party brass that he will not able to attend the “brain-storming session,” to be held in Jaipur from January 18 to 20.

Krishna, a former external affairs minister, has also told the high command that he will not head the  sub-group of the party on foreign affairs, a report of which will be placed at the “Chintan Shivir.”

The Rajya Sabha member has told the party leadership that he had already agreed to attend a programme in Vietnam. Therefore, he is unable to attend the Jaipur meeting.

The former Karnataka chief minister, who was unceremoniously removed as foreign minister last year, is likely to be away on a tour abroad later this week. Krishna was to present the report of the sub-group on “India and the World.”

Krishna was one of the five senior leaders entrusted with the task of heading respective groups.  Defence Minister A K Antony is heading the key sub-group on emerging political challenges and ways to woo new allies ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2014.

A sub-group socio-economic challenges is headed by AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh.
