Last Updated 16 January 2013, 16:51 IST

The powers of Rangayana director which had been withdrawn earlier, has been restored. This follows an order from deputy chief minister K S Eshwarappa to maintain status quo of the body.

Though the orders have not been received by director yet, Eshwarappa has issued a memo instructing the principal secretary to maintain status quo at the repertory.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, director B V Rajaram exuded confidence that he may receive the orders in a week.

The director had been stripped of powers, handing over the task to deputy director. It included, signing cheques, sanctioning leave to artistes and fixing payment for supporting staff. He said, it was a sheer unscientific step taken by government.  The director and artistes have further demanded autonomous status for the body which will facilitate independent functioning.
