<p>Tamil Nadu state government called for a peace meet at Talavadi on Thursday. to instill confidence among the fear-stricken Kannada speaking population. Talavadi is located close to Dakshina Kannada border. </p>.<p>A delegation led by Palaniswamy, assistant commissioner of Gopichattipalyam, Erode, <br />tahsildar of Satyamangala, Kannan and deputy superintendent of police Muttuswamy assured safety for Kannada speaking population of the district. Kannadigas were convinced that action will be taken only against those who have disturbed the law and order of the region.<br /><br />Palaniswamy called upon the people who have deserted Talavadi village after clashes following the death of a student to return. Tamil Nadu government is deemed to provide security to the residents of the village, he said. The student belonging to Kannada speaking was found dead in a school which resulted in clashes at Talavadi.<br /><br />In the clash, anti-social elements had set fire on a primary health centre, pelted stones at the police station and set three buses alight. Video recording of these were done and cases registered against 62 people. 59 have been arrested among which leaders of regional political parties were also involved, he said.<br /><br />He urged the people not to heed to rumours following the clashes. He said that Divine institute at Doddagajanur village was temporarily closed. The management of the school is fearing repercussions from the villagers. But we will try to restart the school in three days, he said. </p>.<p>The kin of the deceased student Sandhya will be given suitable relief. We will also ask the school management to provide compensation, he said.<br /><br />Deputy Commissioner of Chamarajanagar, N Jayaram requested the pro-Kannada activists to maintain harmony. Talavadi is now peaceful, he said.<br /><br />“Erode districts DC and SP have responded to the requests made by us following the clashes. They have assured to provide safety for Kannadigas in Talavadi. Kannadigas can return to Talavadi without any fears.” he said.<br /><br /></p>
