Assam clinched the overall championship title, garnering 14 medals including six gold, on the concluding day of the 33rd National Sub-junior archery championships at the Sree Kanteerava stadium on Saturday.

This is Assam’s third consecutive overall National Sub-junior crown after emerging winners in 2012 in Ajmer and 2011 in Dhanbad.

“We have been doing a lot of work at the grassroot level and most of these archers are from lower Assam or the Bodoland region. The SAI Centre in Kokrajhar where I have my Special Area Games (SAG) Centre is where most of them train,’’ RK Rajiv Singh, Assam’s coach explained when asked about their tremendous success rate at the Sub-junior level.

Karnataka finished their campaign with Abhiraj Singh DP and Monisha V Shankar bagging silver in the Recurve Mixed Team event as they rounded off their best ever performance with two silvers and a bronze.
