MIM legislator targets Gandhi, faces police case

MLA made some objectionable remarks
Last Updated 19 January 2013, 18:57 IST

Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leaders have seem to have developed a penchant for landing into trouble. A complaint has been received against Ahmed Pasha Quadri, MIM legislator from Charminar, for his alleged remarks about the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the state Assembly premises in Hyderabad.

BJP president of Jagtial town in Karimnagar district has filed a police complaint against the MLA, who allegedly made some “objectionable” remarks against the statue of Gandhi. Assistant Superintendent of Police A Rama Rajeshwari said his complaint has been sent to the public prosecutor for opinion and added that police would act after receiving a report.

Karimnagar additional Munsif court has directed the two town police station to book a case against Charminar MLA Qadri for his derogatory remarks against father of the nation.

“The state assembly building in Hyderabad was built by the Nizams, but see what has happened. They have installed Mahatma Gandhi there. Kiski baap ki building hai our kisko laake bithaye,” the MLA told Urdu medium school students after distributing books. “The Charminar, Qutbminar, Taj Mahal and the Red Fort, all the significant structures in India are built by us, what they have done?” he asked.

Even as the MIM leaders appear to be rubbing the law on the wrong side one after another, Hyderabad MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi appears to be facing the prospect of arrest for abusing and roughing up the district collector of Medak in the same case in which his brother Akbaruddin was brought from Nirmal to Sangareddy on Friday.

Meanwhile, the non-bailable warrant against MP Asaduddin Owaisi in this connection took a serious turn when he did not personally appear before the First Class Excise Court in the Medak district court complex in Sangareddy. In this case, Asad’s Brother Akbaruddin Owaisi was brought from the Adilabad jail and produced before the court on Friday. Despite summons, Asaduddin did not bother to appear before the court.

When his lawyers filed a counter in the court, Judge Maruti Devi rejected the petition as the MP was not personally present. Sources say that police are likely to arrest Asaduddin Owaisi any time.

Doctors of the RIMS hospital reportedly told the Adilabad district jail authorities that the Akbaruddin Owaisi who was arrested for his hate speech was faking illness.
Ever since he was sent to the district jail on remand, Akbar has been frequently complaining of stomach ache. Akbar complained about his stomach ache to district judge who was on a visit to the jail. The judge immediately directed prison authorities to call doctors.

The doctors of the RIMS who visited the prison and examined Akbar told him that the stomach ache was only due to indigestion.

On Friday, Akbar once again complained of stomach ache and was taken to RIMS hospital. Doctors who examined him reportedly told the police that there was nothing wrong with the MLA.  Akbar created a scene in the hospital by demanding to see his medical reports and refusing to leave the hospital. The police and prison authorities had to forcefully take him back to the jail.
