Swimmers felicitated

Karnataka Swimming Association (KSA) felicitated 154 swimmers along with 50 coaches and officials for their achievements in 2011-2012 during a function at the Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre on Sunday.

Among the 154 swimmers, individual record holders received Rs 1,000 for each record while relay record holders were richer by Rs 250 each. Forty national record holders were part of the list with total cash awards of Rs 30,000 given out to the swimmers.

KSA secretary TD Vijayraghavan praised the swimmers’ efforts in the last two years. “2012 is the 23rd consecutive year in which we won the Junior National title.”

Vijayraghavan also appreciated the performances of the senior swimmers. “We won the Senior National crown for the 20th time. Achieving success is difficult but sustaining it over a period of time is an even tougher job and I am glad we are able to replicate our success,’’ he added.

KOA president K Govindraj and former Indian hockey  captain MP Ganesh also spoke on the occasion. Among the national record-breaking swimmers were Saurabh Sangvekar, who took home the highest cash award of Rs 7,500 including seven individual records and two relay records, Damini K Gowda, N Srihari, Prathima Kollali, Arhatha Magavi and Meghana Srivatsa.
