US hopeful of early resolution: Envoy
Kolkata, Oct 14, DHNS:

The United States would like to see the current standoff between India and China over Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh ''is amicably resolved,'' US Ambassador to India Timothy J Roemer said here on Wednesday.

On a specific question on whether the US recognised Arunachal as part of India, Roemer initially declined to comment saying, “It’s a bilateral issue and the US is confident it would be resolved. I am an ambassador to India and not China.” But when pressed further, he said the US respected the process of election being held in some parts of India.

“It’s important to see that thousands of people have participated in the elections. And the US respects the outcome of the election in that region (Arunachal Pradesh),” Roemer said.

Interacting with mediapersons here on the concluding day of his two-day visit to the city, Roemer said it was important that Pakistan prosecuted the seven accused, including the mastermind Hafeez Saeed, in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
