Jethmalani to take on Gadkari for BJP top post

A day after the notification for BJP presidential poll was announced, noted lawyer and BJP leader Mahesh Jethmalani on Monday swung into action to announce his decision to take on incumbent Nitin Gadkari.

“I just said there should be a contest if Mr Gadkari is contesting. If I have to engage in a token fight, I may decide,” Jethmalani told reporters in Mumbai.

BJP general secretary Thawarchand Gehlot, who is in-charge of the election process, confirmed that a person called him up claiming that Jethmalani wanted to have papers for filing nominations and list of electoral college for presidential elections. But, the party leader said Jethmalani did not get in touch with him.

Gehlot informed that he told the caller, whose identity he did not reveal, to meet him along with an authorisation letter from Jethmalani.

Interestingly, Jethmalani’s father Ram Jethmalani recently buried the hatched with Gadkari after both, father and son, had charged that the BJP president  should resign as he was facing corruption charges. Ram was suspended for anti-party activities while earlier his son had resigned from vice-presidentship.

Gadkari is facing Income Tax and Serious Fraud Office investigation owing to corruption charges with his Purti Group.
