AP industry seeks 5-day week work model

Last Updated 23 January 2013, 19:23 IST

Reeling under an unprecedented power crisis, Andhra Pradesh industry representatives have come up with a novel idea to save energy by switching over to a five-day week work in government offices.

By opting for a five-day week schedule, the government can save at least six to eight million units per day, which can be diverted to the crisis-ridden industry, resulting in the improvement of productivity and employment generation. Besides, such a move will also save fuel consumption, it is argued.

The proposal was put forward by the representatives of the Confederation of the Indian Industry and Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry at a meeting with Chief Secretary Minnie Mathew here.
