Speculation rife as Modi meets Rajnath
2014 Lok Sabha poll topic of discussions
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, top contender to be the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, met the new party president Rajnath Singh on Sunday and held “detailed discussions” over the 2014 Lok Sabha (LS) election. The meeting lasted nearly two hours signifying Modi’s national role.
This was the first meeting between Modi and Rajnath Singh, who took charge as the BJP president four days ago. However, both refused to reveal details of their discussion.
Emerging out of the meeting along with Rajnath Singh, Modi said he was here to convey his best wishes and added that they had elaborate discussions about the upcoming LS poll.
“There was a discussion on 2014. It was quite detailed,” Modi said adding that he had sought time from Singh to convey his best wishes. The meeting was held at the BJP chief’s residence.
Rajnath Singh said: “The day I was elected party president, Modi called and congratulated me. He said he will come to Delhi. We also discussed the 2014 LS poll,” he added. Meanwhile, the BJP chief chose to sidestep questions about Modi being the party’s prime ministerial candidate. “What was to be said, has been said,” he retorted.
