A 26-year-old woman was injured in north east Delhi’s Karawal Nagar when her husband allegedly hurled acid at her after she refused to withdraw a case against him and allow him their son’s custody.

Minakshi, who stays at Indian Apartment at Dilshad Colony, claimed that the incident took place on Janauary 26. She had married Harbir Singh in 2003, but has been living with her parents for the past one year, and they have also been fighting a case at Karkardooma Court.

“Minakshi claimed she was lured to a house in Karawal Nagar on Saturday by Harbir’s neighbour Harish. Harbir was present in the house with his brothers Yogender and Subhash, and nephews Sandeep and Sachin,” a police official said.

Harbir told her to take the case back, and give him custody of their eight-year-old son Aryan.
When Minakshi rejected the demand, Harbir and his relatives allegedly beat her up.

“She claimed that she was also attacked with sharp-edged weapons, and Harbir threw acid on her clothes,” the official added.

During the melee, Minakshi’s mother Bhagwati and brother Ashwani reached the spot. They informed police after which Minakshi was taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital.
A case was lodged with Khajuri Khas police station over Minakshi’s statement on Sunday. She told police that Harbir regularly used to beat her up when they stayed together, and added that Harbir threw her out of their house last year.

Sandeep, Sachin and Harish have been arrested, but Harbir, Yogender and Subhash are absconding.
