Sandalwood Sa Ri Ga Ma.. a movie out of the box

Mysore, Jan 30, 2013, DHNS:

When a movie doesn’t see the light of the day, it would be the end of many wannabe film makers. In a turn around situation, a movie, second for its director, based on the travails he underwent in his debut venture is all set to hit the screens on February 1.

Sandalwood Sa Ri Ga Ma, a Kannada movie directed by Sharat Khadri and produced by Surabhi Talkies will be seeing multiplex releases, and a single screen (theatre) across the State. It’s an experimental movie with many firsts to its credit.

Sharing his experiences at a media briefing on Wednesday, Sharat said the plot of the movie is based on ‘Mareyalaare’ (Unforgettable) the debut project which had to be shelved after shooting 20 per cent of the movie. To tell the storyline, it’s about the man who quits his job as a techie to pursue his passion in film making.

Unlike the regular flicks, the characters, 72 in total here portray their own characters on screen. For example, Sindu Loknath a known name as heroine will be playing the same character, and Avinash who will be the celebrity guest.

The other uniqueness are; 70 per cent of the movie has been picturised in recreated background (graphics) like IT Tech Parks, restaurants and other locations on par with Hollywood. Music is by Keerthan a software engineer again a new comer, while Raveendranath has handled the camera.

As said earlier, it’s an experiment in release too with 12 multiplexes zeroed in for release in Mysore, Bangalore, Mangalore and Belgaum. Shankar, a theatre in Sargur, H D Kote taluk in the district is the only single screen selected for release. It’s only after seeing the response, the movie will be released in other theatres.

The maker

The protagonist in the movie is the reel character of real life Sharat. After dabbling in the field of marketing with popular telecom players, Sharat a native of Melkote in Mandya district decided to call it quits to embrace his favourite- film making.

He along with like-minded friends, and most importantly his wife Gauri founded Surabhi Talkies in Bangalore, lending expertise in film making, visual effects, digital intermediate (DI) and celebrity management.

Gauri is also not behind as she has to her credit assisting renowned director T S Nagabharana in his mega serial ‘Mahamaayi’, besides several other assignments that helped hone her skills in the realm.
