Rare coins, articles found in Javagal

Bronze coins and other articles were found at the Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy temple when conservation works were in progress on the temple tower on Thursday evening.

When mud accumulated in the temple tower was cleaned a mud pot was found and when opened some coins of archaeological importance was found inside.

There were 234 coins, one brass kalasa, mask and wooden articles and others were also found. The contractor immediately informed taluk tahsildar Jagadish.

Technical advisor of department of archaeology and museums M M Raichur and others visited the spot and conducted mahazar. Expert’s opinion would be taken on the findings to know the period of the findings. MLA Rudregowda also visited the spot.
