Nine troopers of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh for harassing women cadets of the National Cadet Corps from Meghalaya on board a train, police said Saturday.

The SSB soldiers on board the Bihar-bound Saptakranti Express barged into the compartment reserved for women at Chandauli, some 350 km from here, late Friday, and began harassing the NCC cadets who were returning after participating in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi.

The troopers were arrested after the NCC cadets filed a complaint with the Government Railway Police (GRP) at the Mughalsarai station.

A GRP spokesperson said that a case under Sections 354 and 36O of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the nine accused, and they have been arrested.
