A 22-year-old youth was shot dead and his 16-year-old female friend was shot at in north-east Delhi’s Karawal Nagar on Sunday. The boy’s family alleged that girl’s family is responsible for killing their son.

The incident took place at the girl’s house at Rama Garden in Karawal Nagar at around 4.30 am.  Jitendra Tomar was found dead outside the house. The girl, Jugnu Singh, was found shot at in her room.

She was admitted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where she is battling for life. “We found a loaded country-made pistol lying beside the body of the youth,” said a senior police officer.

An investigating officer said the youth first shot at the girl and then killed himself or some outsiders plotted to eliminate both of them.

“It is matter of investigation how Jitendra, who lives at Chauhanpur reached the girl’s house early morning,” added the officer.

“We are trying to piece together the crime scene.”

He added that they have found a rope hanging on the back hand side of the girl house and her room was open.

“It is unclear at this moment what happened and we are working on it,” said the officer.
Jitendra was living with his father Ajit Singh Tomar and a brother and sister. He used to help his father in his small dairy project.

His uncle, Sanjeev Singh Tomar, said, Jitendra after having dinner on Saturday night went to sleep.

“Someone called him on his mobile phone in the wee hours of Sunday. He left home saying he will come back in half-an-hour,” said Sanjeev Singh Tomar.

At around 7 pm they received a call from police that Jitendra was shot at and was lying at Rama Park, he added.

“We rushed to the spot and found him dead. He was lying dead outside his female friend’s house,” he said.

He alleged that the girl’s family members have killed him objecting to  their relationship.

Counter argument

Jugnu’s father Virendra Singh Yadav said his daughter knocked at his room in an injured condition at around 4.45 am on Sunday. She said someone shot at her.

“We rushed her to the hospital,” Yadav said. “Someone might have climbed into the house and shot at her,” he said.

Yadav added that he is unaware about any youth named Jitendra being his daughter’s friend. “We have no idea about it.”

Police said they are checking call details and questioning neighbours and friends of both of them. “It is too early to say anything,” said the officer.
