JOIN USIn a heartrending incident, a three-year-old child died after being given anaesthesia in a dental clinic to undergo a routine procedure.
The parents of Shirish, the ill-fated boy, lodged a complaint against two doctors Dr Raviraj the dentist and Dr Raghavendra an anaesthesiologist, with Madivala police. The parents alleged that Shrish died of medical negligence.
Shirish’s father, Lokesh, a businessman and mother, Asha, reside in HSR 4th sector. They have two children, Shirish and Monish, 10. Shirish would have turned three on March 12.
Four teeth of Shirish were decaying. The couple met their family doctor who referred them to Dr Raviraj, who serves at Annayya ENT and Dental Clinic in HSR Layout 5th sector.
“I took him to the clinic around 7:30 am and my husband went to office. Dr Raviraj told me that he would fill cavities and took my son inside his chamber. Things took an ugly turn by 9:40 am when Dr Raviraj told me Shirish’s pulse had gone down,” Asha said.
The boy reportedly suffered cardiac arrest twice at Annayya clinic and the doctors rushed him to Garden City Hospital. “We were shocked when his death was announced at Garden City Hospital. He was dead at Annayya Hospital and they kept us in dark about my son’s death,” Shirish’s father Lokesh said.
The parents said they did not understand why Shirish was taken to Jayanagar when St John’s Hospital was close by. “They gave him around 20 injections in a span of three hours. They kept us in dark and kept claiming that his condition was normal. They told us around 1 pm that his chances of survival was slim and decided to shift him to another hospital,” the boy’s mother said.
Lokesh’s relatives lost their cool when they heard the tragic news and caught the doctor duo and thrashed them black and blue. They kicked them in the face, back and stomach till they bled.
“We treated him only after considering his situation. He had consumed a bit of vomit which might have acted as poison and claimed his life,” Dr Raviraj claimed. Post mortem was conducted at KIMS and the body was handed over to the parents. The Madivala police registered cases under Section 304 of the IPC against the doctors based on Lokesh’s complaint.
